When 83-year-old Lynn Hershman Leeson landed in Düsseldorf from New York to open her exhibition “Are our Eyes Targets” at the Julia Stoschek Foundation, this pioneer of media art seemed almost modest. For half a century, this present-day Pandora has been concerned with surveillance systems, algorithms, artificial intelligence and human identities. However, the intellectual narrative form in diary form is often more important to this warning conceptual artist than the beautiful appearance of the images.
