Whether you can’t make it to Canada this Fall or just can’t wait to get a quick fix of Lynn’s newest feature film, the San Francisco Arts Commission has got you covered. In their 40th anniversary, not-to-be-missed exhibition Now & When, which runs through September 4th, they are featuring Timelines: !Women Art Revolution! It’s a multimedia collection tracing the trajectory of !WAR since Lynn began filming 42 years ago. According to the SFAC,

Her time capsule provides a glimpse into the process of creating this monumental film project and contains organizational timelines that chart how the film was realized, the timing of getting the footage and acquiring images, the projected completion and distribution schedules, the sound and video timelines, and graphic timelines from 1970-2009 that define histories. Additionally, Now & When offers local audiences a chance to view clips of !Women Art Revolution before it premieres at MOMA in New York.

Lynn’s upcoming documentary project !Women Art Revolution (a secret history) chronicles essential moments in recent history that birthed and shaped the Feminist Art Movement, so it’s only fitting that the timeline created by Lynn and a fantastic multimedia team for the !WAR project will be represented in the San Francisco Art Commission’s 40th Anniversary exhibition Now and When, opening tonight at the San Francisco Arts Commission Galleries (Main Gallery and Grove Street), from 6-8PM. While not the film itself, the timeline is a fascinating glimpse into the history of a movement that inspired a groundbreaking documentary project, complete with an interactive blog that will also be shown in this exhibit.

Roberta's Multiples

While Eyjafjallajokull has been belching fire and smoke across the European continent, stopping planes in their tracks, Lynn has necessarily had to make some changes to her agenda. Both of her upcoming events in England have been rescheduled to accommodate the angry volcano. Here are the details:

First, her “Touched Talk”, which was scheduled for today as part of the ramp-up to the Liverpool Biennial, has been moved to May 12. If you haven’t bought tickets yet, they aren’t available on the “Touched Talk” website at this moment, but we’ll make sure to let you know if they’ve sold out and when any remaining tickets are available! This will be an unprecedented chance to see !Women Art Revolution! a (formerly) secret history, in progress.

Next up: “The Complete Roberta Breitmore Symposium”, which was previously scheduled for April 24 at the  University of Manchester Whitworth Art Gallery, will now occur on May 15. This is the exhibition tour and panel discussion featuring Lynn, Jackie Stacey, and Maria Balshaw, and it is FREE. While we are counting down to the completion of the groundbreaking documentary !Women Art Revolution! a (formerly) secret history, Lynne-philes in Liverpool and points near have a chance to get just a little closer, a little sooner. As part of “Touched Talks”, the 2010 Liverpool Biennial’s pre-exhibition lecture series, !WAR will be screened as a work-in-progress, followed by a discussion with Dr. Alison Rowley of Liverpool John Moores University. Yes, our friends across the Atlantic have all the luck, it seems. The talk will take place this coming Wednesday, April 21, from 4-6 PM. Make your fingers run, not walk, to get tickets! And for those of you not fortunate enough to be in the UK next week, get your fix at the !WAR YouTube channel, become a fan on Facebook, and follow the film on Twitter. You wouldn’t want to miss the revolution, now would you?

This evening, March 2, join us at Intersection for the Arts for “Clips and Conversation”, part of their Open Process series and an unprecedented opportunity presented by Bay Area Women in Film and Media! Not only will participants get a sneak peek of clips from TWO forthcoming documentaries about feminist art- Lynn’s !Women Art Revolution: a (formerly!) secret history, and Joan Braderman’s The Heretics- but they’ll also participate in a post-screening forum with Lynn, The Heretics producer Crescent Diamond,  BAWIFM President Simone Nelson, and other exciting academic and artistic voices. Considering !WAR won’t be released until Fall 2010, this will truly be an evening to remember and a chance to get in on the ground floor of the dialogue this project will generate across the art world. Here at the livingblog, we hope to collect and disseminate this dialogue as much as we can. In the meantime, take yourself here for more details.  Of course, for BAWIFM members, the event is free.
